I'm forwarding this on behalf of the AHRC. I'd very much encourage UK
members to respond to this. As you will all be aware we are in urgent
need of well qualified people to comment on the technical aspects of
applications for AHRC funding after the demise of the AHDS. So it's
really important to recruit an excellent group of reviewers to ensure
that applications are well treated.

Dear Colleague,

The AHRC is inviting applications for Technical Reviewers to be
appointed to its Peer Review College from Spring 2008.

Technical Reviewers will provide advice, as part of the AHRC's
assessment process, on technical aspects of proposals submitted for
funding. Reviewers therefore need to have the relevant expertise to
comment authoritatively on the technical aspects of research
projects, as described in the Technical Appendix form submitted with
funding applications. In particular, we are seeking people with
expertise in one or more of the following areas: project management
of technical aspects; data development methods; data/file formats;
infrastructural support (hardware and software); data preservation
and sustainability.

Technical Reviewers will be expected to review Technical Appendix
forms across all areas of the arts and humanities subject domain. If
a reviewer's expertise is limited to particular subject areas, this
should be stated on the application form. Please note that we are not
looking to appoint technical reviewers specializing in archaeology,
as the AHRC will be obtaining such expertise through its support of
the Archaeology Data Service (ADS).

Applications are welcomed from all those who meet the criteria
attached at *Appendix C* to the application form, including
researchers already serving on the College as academic peer
reviewers, as well as those who are not currently College members. In
the case of the latter, technical reviewers will be appointed to
provide technical reviews only. College members are normally
appointed for a term of three years and appointments will commence in
May 2008. There is no remuneration but College members are reimbursed
for travel and subsistence expenses incurred on AHRC business.

Anyone who wishes to apply to be a technical reviewer should complete

Completed forms must be accompanied by a summary CV and publications

wrote to all Heads of Higher Education Institutions about the
Council's decision to discontinue AHRC support for the Arts and
Humanities Data Service (AHDS) from March 2008. Further information

The AHRC has, however, elected to continue its support of the
Archaeology Data Service (ADS) for a further five years, because of
