I would like to endorse the position on agile methods put forward by
Joris, and add to it the benefit of having an interface designer at
the table throughout the process. Sometimes it is possible to think
of design, whether visual communication design or sometimes also
information design and visualization, as a polishing stage at the end
of the process, but the interactions between designers and
programmers are often fruitful, and the ideas and decisions of both
groups can benefit from knowing what the others are about at each stage.
