Subject: how to use Chi-square correctly?
Dear Humanist colleagues, the discussion about reviewing process is
quite on time. My article was turned away because the reviewer wrote
that I use the Chi-square criterion in the way it was used 30 years
ago. I am a linguist but I guess that the calcilation of the
Chi-square should be the same then and now. Am I not correct? I
wonder if anyone can help me to calculate it in the modern way? For
example, we have 22 Verbials in Agatha Christie and 8 - in J.K.
Rowling. Both texts are of the equal size 10 000 words. I calculated
the Chi-square as 6.53. It means that there is a statistical
difference between them at the level of 5%, since the table value is
3.84. I wonder if I calculate it correctly. Looking forward to
hearing from you to <mailto:yutamb_at_mail.ru>yutamb_at_mail.ru Yours
sincerely Yuri Tambovtsev
