Subject: puzzled by the Evangelium Longum & by the
Astronomical Clock of Pacificus of Verona

After spending an inordinate amount of time looking at the Codices
Electronici Sangallenses recommended by Dr McCarty, I have two
questions that are going to be the end of me.

The first regards the cover of the Evangelium Longum. Out of all the
encrusted stones, one is different, it appears to me to be an
intaglio. Why? I can't believe because it was close by and some
fellow simply picked it up.

The second involves the illustration of the Astronomical Clock of
Pacificus of Verona...what is that instrument in his hand?

Thank you,

Jean
