Dear Cristina,
you may be interested in this project:

The PI, Prof. Lyle Bachman (Applied Linguistics) UCLA, has developed a
system for testing/grading open-ended questions as part of the on-line
placement test for English as a second language. Much work goes into
preparing the tests and training those who write the questions and develop
scoring rubrics. ultimately, Prof. Bachman believes this leads to more
accurate results on high-volume tests.

it's an interesting project. there is contact info on the site.
