Subject: Query for HUMANIST on source of quotation
Colleagues:
I am trying to identify the source of the following quotation,
which I recall only approximately.
Science today is the study of the very large,
the very small, the very fast and the very slow.
Were I to hazard a guess, I would attribute the quote
to Sir James Jeans. However, perusal of his books,
such as I have in my library (together with other
books likely to contain this quote), as well as
searches of quotation databases and a GOOGLE search
of the Web have turned up nothing.
I may well be misattributing the quote to Jeans.
Can you help?
