It has been a long time since I have done medieval text analysis, but I
thought that if there was one field where people had a reasonable level
of computer sophistication, that was it. But that was twenty years ago,
and apparently a lot can be forgotten in that time. Does this mean that
the text archives are so invisible that people don't check them first of
all for guidance? Because it would seem that the text archives would be
the ideal centers for text-editing and -markup expertise. Is that not
part of their missions?
