CALL FOR PAPERS -- MLA 1996 Special Session

"Casaubon's Cohorts: The Figure of the Classical Scholar in Fiction
after the Enlightenment"

The character of the teacher/scholar of Greek and Latin in the novel
(British, American, European, non-European); can a discussion of this
figure open a more detailed appreciation of Classicism in prose
literature after the eighteenth century, in an "anti-classical genre?
Will consider abstracts received by 29 March 1996; direct to Chris Ann
Matteo, chrisann@phoenix.princeton.edu (212) 932-0216.
