Subject: matchmaker
I probably would make use of such a service, though my requirements would
be apt to shrink the opportunities to zero:
*It must be heavy on editing/writing,
*It must involve no classroom teaching under the old instructor-forever and
maybe tenured-someday system,
*I am place-bound and would need to work from home over the Net.
I'm underutilized where I am and face a glass ceiling of sorts, partly
through ageism. I've maintained my sanity through projects like the Edmund
Spenser page, but this is pure volunteerism, as the humanities system here
seems to offer little or no incentive to this sort of effort. If your match-
maker project reached potential employers NOT IN ACADEMIA, it might find
work for those of us with publishing skills who are neither entrepreneurs nor
good at political infighting.
I'm told I sound too bitter in email. Not intended. The people in this office
are good people, and the I'm lucky to have the account that I do, which
was permitted to develop into a rather large WWW site gratis.
