Subject: virtuality triumphs

I am writing an article tonight; I need the title and publication date of
a book. The book is in the next room, about 10 feet from where I sit. I
do not budge from my place, for it is easier to click on an icon and go
to the on-line catalogue of my university's library, snatch the
information, and dart back window-to-window to insert the information in
a footnote. I report this only as a datum in the history of laziness and
the technologies we work so hard to construct to support that laziness.
