Subject: Psychology, Imagery, Language of Transgendering
In a particular literary work I am interested in, it looks to me like the
author has deliberately created a narrator who starts out overtly macho but
eventually becomes so sympathetic toward the male-oppressed women of his
story that he psychologically identifies with them and thereby undergoes,
in effect, a kind of alteration in gender consciousness: that is, he
remains a man but gradually identifies himself as a woman and comes to
address his women as a true sister. Before I dismiss this idea as silly, I
would like to know if any literary theorist, or any theory applicable to
literary study--psychological, cultural, linguistic, medical, anything!--
provides a conceptual and critical framework in which such a literary
phenomenon might be explored.
I would appreciate any leads anyone can offer.

I am interested in your recent announcement of the NYIT Conf on April 3,
on Writing and computers in highschool and college. Since I will not be
able to attend this conference, I was wondering if any of the presentations
will be available in electronic form, following the conference.
thanks.
Lucia.
