I was intrigued by the question of silent reading in Ancient Greece
when it arose in my Classical Rhetoric class at the U of Michigan
in the late 1970s. I picked it up as a dissertation topic, and

I do not know the source of the verse about the centipede, but
I would very much like to have it and a copy of the text as well.
I must use this as an example of the way that trying to know what
gets in the way of knowing how at least once a month during term time.
So I hope that Ken Steele posts whatever responses he gets.
