I would agree with the very good discussion of databases given by Robert
Sinkewicz as a response to a question by Paul Delany. Under "dynamic"
databases I would add AskSam, a very fast text-based database program
that is relatively easy to program to do a wide variety of tasks. I
use it on extensive mixed bibliography/notes databases with considerable
